Dr. Bashyam, carried out Ph. D. research in the laboratory of Prof.Anil K. Tyagi, Dept. of Biochemistry, Univ. of Delhi South Campus, on the cloning and characterization of promoter sequences from mycobacteria. This analysis has helped to understand the genetic basis for similarities and differences between the transcriptional machineries of Mycobacteria, Streptomyces and E. coli. His postdoctoral work was in the Eukaryotic Gene Expression Laboratory of Dr. S. E. Hasnain at the National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi and was based on the baculovirus gene expression system and included the characterization of both basal and hyperactivated transcription from the polyhedrin gene promoter.  He has completed a one and a half year sabbatical at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He is a member of The National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad.
