Bioinformatics & Sun-CoE

Bioinformatis Facility includes Data Center which is the Center of Excellence (CoE) for Medical Bioinformatics. This CoE was established in accordance with a tripartite agreement between CDFD, Sun Microsystems Inc., USA and the state Government of Andhra Pradesh. The data center's high performance computing infrastructure includes one SUN E20K with 36 Ultra SPARC IV processers, SE6320 Enterprise storage with 10TB and one SUN V20z Linux Grid Cluster with 17 nodes each with 2 x 2.2GHz AMD opteron processors and 4X512MB memory.

The centre provides bioinformatics services in the form of browsing biomolecular sequence databanks, macromolecular structure databanks, genome and other useful databases. It provides services for the comparison and analysis of sequence/structure/genome data, Protein 3-D modelling and molecular graphics. This centre was the national node for European Molecular Biology network (EMBnet) as well as for Asia Pacific Bioinformatics Network (APBioNet) for India. The centre had conducted National and International level bioinformatics workshops.

The above mentioned facilities are being utilized for the following institute activities :
  • Genome analysis, Functional Genomics & Systems Biology
  • Data mining and analysis of DNA Micro array, Proteomics and Clinical data
  • Analysis of Protein sequence, structure, motion and evolution
  • Molecular interactions and Drug Design
  • Development of Computational Tools and Databases for Biologists
