Educational activities & Human Resources Development

CDFD is engaged in number of educational activities and human resources development of highest quality. The activities can be broadly categorized as below:
  • CDFD admits 10-20 Research Scholars every year under its Research Scholar Program and the students are encouraged to apply for Ph D program from either Manipal University, Manipal or University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad.
  • CDFD admits 20 to 25 summer trainees every year.
  • CDFD admits Project Assistants and Project Associates in externally funded projects.
  • CDFD has entered into agreement with Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) for training personnel in the field of Medical Genetics.
  • CDFD has an agreement with the BITS, Pilani to undertake 6 month training of 4 to 6 students every year on the different research areas.

Research Scholars Programme: Admission to Research Scholars Program is usually advertised twice a year in leading newspapers across the country and also on our website. We invite online/postal applications against advertisement from highly motivated candidates, willing to take up challenges in modern biology, for admission to our Research Scholars program. Keeping in view the interdisciplinary nature of modern biology, we especially encourage persons from diverse backgrounds to apply for the said program. Those admitted as Research Scholars are encouraged to apply for the Ph.D. program of Manipal University or University of Hyderabad.

Eligibility: Admission to the CDFD Research Scholars program is made through two independent streams. To be eligible for either stream all candidates must have a Masters degree in any branch of Science, Technology, or Agriculture from a recognized University/ Institute OR MBBS.

Stream 1:
Applicants who appear for the Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS), and apply to CDFD are eligible for consideration in stream 1. Shortlisted candidates in this stream are asked to directly appear for interviews.

Stream 2:
To be eligible for this stream, applicants must have qualified CSIR / UGC / DBT / ICMR / INSPIRE NET JRF / UGC – RGNF (for SC/ST candidates) or have qualified BINC examination conducted by the DBT with fellowship or GATE (All India Top 50 Ranks in Biotechnology [BT], Life Sciences [XL] or Chemistry [CY]) or JEST. MBBS candidates are exempted from any of the eligibility tests mentioned herein but must be below the age of 28 years as on the last date for receipt of application. Candidates are short listed based on a LAN based examination followed by interview.

Summer Trainees: The summer training conducted by CDFD is a short term intense training program designed especially for students of B.Sc /M.Sc or teacher in Universities. Admission to the summer program is strictly through the National Academy Summer Training Programme conducted jointly by National Academy of Sciences India, Allahabad, Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore and Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi.

Project Assistants and Associates: CDFD admits Project Assistants and Project Associates in different externally funded projects. Vacancies under these projects are advertised periodically and candidates are encouraged to apply against the advertisement. Candidates are selected through rigorous selection procedure.
